Living room sofa and pair of armchairs – Louis XVI period – Filled wood and toile de Jouy

Louis XVI period living room composed of a sofa and a pair of armchairs in gray-green lacquered wood (highlighted) with gilded leaf moldings and ornaments.

The sofa features a concave arched back topped with two finials in the shape of gilded fluted vases; the tapered fluted legs and the rosettes at the corners are characteristic of the Louis XVI style. The shepherdesses display a rectangular backrest of the same design. The set is garnished with a toile de Jouy with a cream background printed in burgundy red, with Chinoiserie motifs (characters in oriental costume, butterflies, birds, foliage) and an undulating garland with cartridges; the armchairs are decorated with matching cushions with red and white twisted trimmings.

Workshop observation: the upholstery has notable marks and dirt requiring cleaning. The wood shows wear and flaking of the lacquer and gilding; a consolidation of the gilding is to be expected.

Sofa dimensions: H. 94 cm (145 cm total) – L. 180 cm – D. 80 cm – Seat H. 50 cm. Bergere dimensions: H. 86 cm – L. 58 cm – D. 47 cm – Seat H. 47 cm. Price: 2,800 EUR.
