Christofle silver-plated metal letter tray, pre-1935.

In the past, in large households, the staff did not hand the mail directly to their employers but placed it on a tray. 
The model we are offering is very elegant: rectangular, without handles, and richly decorated.
In its center, a double-circled oval is free of any decoration and appears intended to hold a monogram.
The interior of the tray is doubly encircled by two thin ribbons similar to those of the central oval. The four corners are adorned with a slender vine bearing leaves, flowers, and berries.
The rim features a raised band of foliage and berries in high relief.
This tray is in fine condition despite some silver plating wear on the back and on the raised elements of the rim. These signs of wear and micro-scratches attest to the intense life of this everyday object, which could tell us many secrets! Strangely enough, the loss of silver plating along the rim lends a certain elegance thanks to its two-tone appearance.
It is neither too small nor too large, measuring 30.2 cm in length by 23.5 cm in width. 
The hallmarks are clearly legible and indicate that this is a fairly old piece: the scales surmounted by four stars, with two branches below, framed by the initials CC, all within an oval inset in a rectangle—is the Christofle hallmark predating 1935, the year the initials CC were replaced by OC for Orfèvrerie Christofle.
Also note the presence of the full “Christofle” name, a serial number, and the number 34 within two squares, indicating a significant amount of silver used for the plating...
