Silver plated trivet by the Maison CHRISTOFLE in Paris.
Insculpation plate representing the various silver hallmarks of the Fermiers Généraux under the Ancien Rémine from the 17th to 18th centuries.
During the reign of Louis XIV, Colbert, Comptroller General of Finances, decided to better control the production of goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares. To this end, he created the Fermiers généraux, a body of people responsible for checking objects and hallmarking them with different hallmarks according to city and year.
These include "charge" hallmarks according to the city in which the silver objects were made, "décharge" hallmarks and "jurande" hallmarks indicating the year of manufacture.
Practical and useful, but also highly instructive!
In perfect condition, shiny and silvered.
