    Fireplace ornament, Henri PICARD, Bronze Artist (1840–1890), and Raingo Brothers; Official Suppliers to Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie.
    Henri PICARD, Bronze Artist (1840–1890), and Raingo Frères, Fireplace ornament featuring a reclining woman and two cherubs in bronze with two patinas, enameled dial signed Raingo Frères in Paris. Engraved with the number 233 and the foundry mark H. Picard;

    “Reclining Woman and Two Cherubs”

    The clock features a young woman dressed in ancient-style garb, reclining as she removes her wedding ring and gazes at it thoughtfully. She is resting her elbow on a flower-covered mound that encloses the movement. It surrounds a round, white-enameled dial displaying the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in Arabic numerals, signed “Raingo Frères / à Paris.” The oblong base is richly decorated with foliage scrolls and flowers, a frieze of gadroons, and ribboned reeds.
    Silk-thread suspension and chime at the hours and half-hours.
    In perfect working order
    The pair of cherubs symbolize love. One, with his index finger raised and wielding a club, urges the young woman to be cautious; while the other, holding a pair of scissors, resignedly prepares to cut off one of his own wings... They rest on square bases decorated in a style similar to that of the clock.
