ATO is a prestigious watchmaking brand founded by Léon Hatot (1983-1953). He trained at the École Nationale d'Horlogerie in Besançon from 1895 to 1898. Between 1918 and 1919, the "Fabrique d'Horlogerie et de joaillerie" factory, specializing in luxury watches, was built. In 1923, he became interested in possible developments in watchmaking and collaborated with the Arts et Métiers engineer Marius Lavet, a graduate of the École Supérieure d'Electricité. He subsequently began manufacturing pendulum and electric clocks, marketed under the ATO brand from 1923. Two years later, in 1925, he won the Grand Prix d'Art Décoratif.
