Gilt bronze clock finely chiseled, decorated with a pious young woman in contemplation. The elegant lady is dressed in a simple but refined outfit. She is wearing a lace cap that hides her long hair held in a sober bun. Her pretty face raised towards the sky, she delicately puts her right hand on her heart, as touched by grace. She is leaning against a font adorned with an angel and surmounted by a religious alcove surrounding the statue of a virgin and child. The inscription "AVE MARIA" is present and underlines the religious character of the scene.
A hurdy-gurdy is attached to the young woman, implying that she is a musician and that this may be a representation of Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of music in Christianity.
This clock has a white enamel dial with Roman numerals.
The whole rests on a large base elaborately worked, decorated with shells, acanthus leaves, scrolls, friezes and flowers on a striated background.
This gilt bronze Napoleon III clock will delight you with its finesse, its charisma and its brightness.
