    A Neo-Egyptian gilded bronze set
    It consists of two three-branched candelabra and a clock.
    The rich decoration of palmettes, flowers, and papyrus buds, columns and Egyptian heads, lion’s hocks and paws, as well as the high quality of craftsmanship, allows it to be attributed to F. BARBEDIENNE;
     He was one of the most important art casters of the 19th century, and his entire body of work was frequently recognized at World’s Fairs and honored with numerous medals, as were his model makers, engravers, and assemblers.
    The Egyptian style, which had been very fashionable since the time of Napoleon I and his famous military campaigns in Egypt—undertaken as early as 1799 and marking the beginning of the famous “Return from Egypt” style—was rediscovered in France in the 1830s and especially around 1860.
      The base plate bears the hallmark: “JAPY frères,”
    which received the Gold Medal at the
    World’s Fairs of 1825, 1827, 1834, 1844, and 1849.
