Antique-style sconce in chased bronze and gilded with matte and burnished gold, "Royal quality model" by the most prestigious craftsmen of the Louis XV - Louis XVI period: Robert Osmond, bronzier.

The enamelled circular dial, signed Lelan in Nantes, indicates the hours and minutes in increments of five in Roman and Arabic numerals by two gilded copper pierced hands. It is housed in a neoclassical case made entirely of finely chased bronze and gilded with matt and burnished gold. The base is formed by an urn "à l'antique" decorated with palms and ending in a flame, in whose handles passes a long sprig of laurels. The lower part, bordered by two lateral acanthus leaves, is centered by a glass revealing the movement of the pendulum and ends in a sheath adorned with rows of piastres and an acanthus-leaf lamp base. The movement is by wire, the case by Osmond. The original drawing for this cartel is reproduced under No. 37 in a work held in the INHA library (Recueil de dessins. Modèles de pendules, années 1755-1780).

Robert Osmond (1711 - 1789) became a master bronzemaker in Paris in 1746. A juror of his guild, he was one of the first to protect his creator's rights by signing his works, a practice uncommon among bronzemakers of the time. From 1775, his nephew Jean Baptiste followed in his footsteps until 1784. The Osmonds had a prolific career, producing all kinds of furniture bronzes, including andirons, sconces and inkwells; today, they are best known for their clock cases, which they supplied to the finest watchmakers of the time, as shown on our cartel.

Jean Baptiste Lelan, clockmaker active between 1780 and 1787 in Nantes and Paris.

Excellent original condition: the gilded bronze has retained its 18th-century mercury gilding in good condition. The heavily domed glass globe is also original. The movement works (wire suspension), without striking. Complete overhaul by our watchmaker, movement completely dismantled, cleaned and overhauled. Key present.
