Pretty grotesque nutcracker, carved in two parts: screw and seated figure, in a resinous wood which seems to me to be Yew, because of its pink hue.
The screw rests on a round base, and is nicely turned, the base is a trunk of a fluted column. The funny little character, playing the violin, is a pleasure to see. The nut breaks in a spherical housing made in the back of the musician's jacket.
Typical work in Northern Italy, Val Gardena, in the Grödel valley, mountains between Austria and Venice
Good condition, a real pleasure in the hands, a piece of the base glued back on, it's invisible.
    dimensions, H: 16cm more or less x 4.5cm.
