    Very surprising box for Swedish sulfur matches that were used in Europe around 1900.
    Work from Japan for export to the West, Meiji period, (1868-1912), from a Tokyo workshop, unsigned, using the komai technique, gold and silver inlay on iron.
    The blackened iron case is flat, trapezoidal in profile, with an opening on each short side for the scraper. Hinged lid closing with a small latch. Facade decorated with a precious landscape: view of Mount Fuji from a bamboo bridge over a lake, a rider walking with his silver animal, an elegant gold and silver woman under her parasol, distant trees, a flight of golden birds on the black background: magical.
    On the back, two gold birds.
    Dimensions = 6.2cm x 6.2cm x 1.3cm.
    In good condition, no defects, a little wear, the item having been worn.
    Funny: the wooden and paper matchbook from the time remains.
