19th-century gondolier's scepter, in silver-plated copper with a ram's head, the shaft decorated with swirling spirals on more than half of the shaft and leaves of life on the rest. The scepters or "ceremonial staffs" of the Venetian gondoliers had been used at the Serenissima's nautical festivals and parades since the 16th century. This early 19th-century silver-plated metal scepter features the head of a ram. Gondolier scepters disappeared at the end of the 19th century. Good condition, with traces of use. Length 57 cm.
