Superb and rare female statue ATTIE AGNY from Ivory Coast
Half-finished wood with a patina3 rows of pearl necklaces around the neck
cowrie shell placed between the legs as a feminine suxe held by a nail
Tribal scarifications on the belly, back and neck
Bead necklace placed as a bracelet around the left wrist
Beautiful crown carved on top of the skull
It could be a work of the Master of the crowns who worked between Ghana and the Ivory Coast at the beginning of the XXth century (see the book Les maîtres de la sculpture de Côte d'ivoire éditions Skira)
height 45cm plus wooden base.
Nice patina of use.
Does this rare sculpture represent a queen?
The very haughty position, the straight head
The fineness of the face with half closed eyes
The whole makes us think of the representation of a very important character in the ATTIE culture
