Ancient female Lobi maternity figure, Burkina Faso.
This ancient sculpture features a clean, vertical silhouette, typical of Batèba figures from the Lobi cultural area. The mother is shown standing with her arms raised on either side of her head, while the child appears behind her back.
The wood shows strong natural erosion and a beautiful patina of age, testifying to long use. Cracks and wear reinforce the archaic character and authenticity of this piece. This piece is sold on a small ebony base.
