Large ancient hermaphroditic statue (Nongom) known as TELLEM of MALI
with thick crusty patina, sacrificial material
height 74cm plus base delivered with 78cm
The wood is very eroded and the hands are missing
the head has lost a part of its cranial box
This character called Nongom is hermaphroditic
a strong chest and a prominent male sex
the face with an academic line, the nose in arrow, the small goatee and the well drawn ears
the knees bent, the feet growing back on a cylindrical base.
Two sculptures with a similar position can be found in "Dogon" of the Dapper Museum, pages 162 and 163.
First occupying the cliffs of Biandagara in northern Mali, the tellem have been replaced by the Dogon little by little until today
