Very rare Baoulé statue of an ancestor covered with gold leaf (some lacks)
height 34.5cm
Tall slender female body in woods, hands folded on chest
The head turned in a haughty posture and a typical headdress of hair gathered in several balls
well-shaped ears
eyes half closed and mouth with protruding lips
Among the Baoulé, only two forms of art are associated with the ancestors: stools and gold objects.
They are kept in the sacred family heirloom.
Statuettes covered with gold are very rare. We often find scepters or fly swatters
This statuette would require restoration at the level of the gold leaf plating (I dare not touch it to leave it authentically original)
Origin; collection of Doctor Michel GOSSE in Paris
