Nepal, late 19th century - early 20th century, very early carved wooden statue of a hearth protector. Seated, hands in prayer posture, he wears a very unusual conical headdress. This is the very type of deity who would protect a home from evil spirits. This superb statue was collected on site in the early 1970s.
Height 33.3 cm. The scale indicator on the last photograph is a small model of a well-known brand of lighter.
Condition: very eroded wood, attesting to its age and giving this statue a very interesting aesthetic and a very assertive ethnic design.
