Gaston Suisse (1896-1988) was a French decorator and a major figure in the Art Deco movement. He designed several sets for the Ballets Russes at the Paris Opera and costumes for the Comédie Française, before specializing in lacquer. He was distinguished by his refined work on furniture and decorative panels. He participated in numerous international exhibitions, such as the 1925 Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. For his creations, he often drew inspiration from flora and fauna, which he depicted with precision and elegance thanks to his travel sketches in Africa. His expertise and mastery of traditional Japanese lacquer techniques made him one of the greatest lacquer artists of his time.
