Large cardboard shawl or scarf box simulating embossed leather, beautifully decorated in the Neo-Renaissance style. The central cartouche is surrounded by a wide frieze of scrolling foliage and bears the signature of the prestigious Parisian store "À Jean de Paris" in gold lettering. Our Napoleon III style box dates from the first half of the 20th century.

The "À Jean de Paris" company was founded in the 19th century, during the first half of the 1800s. In its early days (19th century), it was a renowned novelty shop selling fabrics and draperies. At that time, the Rue du Bac was one of the busiest shopping streets in Paris, foreshadowing the arrival of department stores. In the 20th century, it became home to one of the largest galleries of antiques and rare objects, to such an extent that the store commissioned 19th-century style storage boxes for its products and customers.

A beautiful and unusual object, a testament to the height of refinement and luxury in the Parisian world of culture and antiques during the 1930s.
