Elegant Pair of Louis XVI Style Chancels in Chased Bronze and Gilt - Mid 19th Century

    Description :

Spectacular pair of Second Empire period andirons, executed in the purest Louis XVI style.

Made of finely chased and gilded bronze, these andirons are distinguished by their architectural composition and rich ornamentation.

The rectangular structure is enlivened by a semi-circular central projection. The entablature is punctuated by flat moldings and delicately chased with rosettes, foliage scrolls and rais-de-cœurs friezes.

In the center stands a sumptuous antique-style covered fire pot. Its tripod shape is supported by carefully detailed ram's feet, combining fluting, asparagus motifs, gadroons and abundant foliage. The lid is crowned with a burst seed-shaped grip.

On the sides, graceful branches with budding leaves and buds bear open pomegranates at the top, symbols of prosperity.

The ensemble rests elegantly on three tapered, spinning top legs, decorated with collars and foliage motifs, and linked by wide, opulent garlands of flowers.

Complete without irons, original antique gilding with traces of use and age.

Dimensions: Width 38 cm Height 28 cm Depth with Hand Iron 8 cm

Beautifully crafted, a single andirons is made up of some thirty bronze parts. This confers a superior level of quality.

    Provenance: Château Normand Privé.

Much more than simple fireplace accessories, andirons are now considered decorative pieces in their own right. Their aesthetic appeal enables them to blend elegantly into a modern setting or enhance the character of an old décor. Diverted from their original purpose, they find a place of choice on a console, in a bookcase niche or atop a chest of drawers, adding a touch of originality and history.
