Pair of lioness and lion lying andirons after Louis-Simon Boizot (1743-1809) and Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843).
These gilded bronze and patinated andirons, decorated with fire pots, trimmings and foliage, stand on tapered legs and feature a lion and lioness lying down, their mouths half-open and turned inwards.
Beneath each animal, a drape raised by a knot falls from the main part of the andiron. A flaming bowl with two leafy handles rises above oak scrolls.
Three spinning top legs terminate in a sphere and are adorned with fillets to support the andirons.
This pair of andirons is reminiscent of the model created in 1786 for Queen Marie-Antoinette's Salon des Jeux at Versailles.
Late 18th century.
