Magnificent painted sheet metal trim from the Consulate-Empire period.

A rare and beautiful set consisting of a jardiniere and two cone-shaped vases in painted sheet metal decorated with mythological scenes and figures, with their original paintings. This set is in an exceptional state of preservation: the paintings have been varnished, allowing it to remain in superb condition even today.
On one of its main sides, the jardiniere reveals a reclining Venus, discovering some victuals brought back by her youngest son Anteros, while they are both attentively observed by Eros (Cupid), who remains in the background. On the opposite side, Apollo, god of the arts, is invited by two cherubs to express his talents as a painter.
Each side of the jardiniere is painted with landscapes and decorated with a drooping handle in the form of a golden lion's head.
On one of the vases, we find Hebe, goddess of eternal youth and vitality, daughter of Zeus and Hera (Jupiter and Juno). Here, as is often the case, she is depicted holding a cup of divine food for immortality, which the eagle (symbolizing Zeus, her father) is trying to reach...
The sides depict, on one side, the goddess Diana the huntress, and on the other, the goddess Flora. The back reveals a vibrant landscape.
On the other vase, the myth of Leda and the swan forms the counterpart to that of Hebe and the eagle. Here, Zeus (Jupiter) has taken the form of a swan to seduce the beautiful Leda. The sides depict, on one side, the god Hermes (Mercury), and on the other, the goddess Hera. The back also reveals a vibrant landscape.

Each piece has a removable interior made of tin with an ochre patina.
Consulate-Empire period, circa 1800-1805.
