Superb, finely carved Christ in Dieppe ivory, presented in a spectacular Provencal rocaille frame in carved wood, openwork and gilded with gold leaf. The Christ is 19th century, the frame is Louis XV circa 1750.
The gold-leaf gilding is superb and in very good condition, with shiny reliefs (burnished with agate). The background is upholstered in dark-brown silk velvet.
This ivory work was carved more than 100 years before the 1947 Washington Convention, and therefore in accordance with the regulation of the ivory trade.
All in excellent condition. The frame has been cleaned by our gilder, and the gold gilding is very fresh. Christ's ivory is still quite white, with all his fingers intact.
A superb and highly decorative set, rare in this type of exuberant frame. An essential addition to an 18th-century bedroom or living room.
Frame size: 60.5cm x 30cm
Height of Christ: 15cm from hand to foot
