    * Vienna enamel:
    characteristic of Austrian work from the second half of the 19th century. 1870 was a fertile artistic period in Vienna. The taste for 16th- and 17th-century objects developed. Numerous enamelled pieces set in lapis, rock crystal or silver appeared. These pieces were strongly influenced by the Renaissance and the taste for cabinets of curiosities, or chambres des merveilles, in vogue in the 16th and 17th centuries. These pieces were presented at international exhibitions. Several workshops were founded, including those of Hermann Böhm, Ludwing Pollitzer and Simon Grünwald in the 1870s.
