This elegant salon table combining a writing table and a games table, including a tric-trac, is from the Louis XVI period, made in Paris around 1785. It is in mahogany and mahogany veneer, and is stamped J-M*SCHILER for Jean-Martin Schuler, a Parisian cabinetmaker received as master on June 27, 1781.

A very neoclassical model, totally in keeping with the taste of the period and also well in keeping with Schuler's known productions, it stands on 4 tapered legs with rings and fluting, surmounted by a 3-row fluted mass head, the belt opens to reveal 2 small opposing drawers with brass lens-shaped pull knobs, Removable top with one side for the desk trimmed in black "grecque" gilded leather, the other side for the card games trimmed in green felt, the edges of the top are trimmed with wooden strips forming a rim, for the desk part the strip is hollowed out on one side, the inside of the belt forms the tric-trac, for this attention, the cabinetmaker has used ebony veneer and ivory.

    J. Schuler used Honduran mahogany for his table, both solid and veneered; the drawers are made of oak, except for the fronts, which are solid mahogany; the backs are made of fir and oak.

Schuler's stamp is stamped twice on the base of a side rail.

This gaming table is in very fine condition, with a nice finish, the leather and felt have been changed, nice even mahogany color (the reflections on the photos might make you think otherwise), it is fitted with pawns.
