    Important Japanese-Style Carved Wooden Display Cabinet

    Far Eastern Work, Late 19th Century – Japonisme Period

    A spectacular Asian-inspired display cabinet, richly carved from exotic wood with a beautiful brown patina.

    This exceptional piece testifies to the fascination with the Far East that characterized European decorative arts at the end of the 19th century.

    The overall design evokes an Asian pavilion with its tall, openwork pagoda topped with tiered roofs and surmounted by a fantastical animal.

    The piece is lavishly decorated with high-relief carvings depicting imperial dragons, stylized plants, bunches of grapes, birds, and symbolic motifs inspired by Chinese iconography.

    The upper section features a glass-fronted display case for exhibiting precious objects, while the middle section combines a carved door decorated with a dragon and an open compartment.

    A side shelf with openwork design and a lower tier complete this particularly elaborate composition.
