A very beautiful sideboard dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, but with doors that are earlier.
The doors are made of carved wooden panels dating from the 18th century. There are eight vignettes. On the last one, located at the bottom right, two mottos can be seen: the motto of the Order of the Garter, "Honi soit qui mal y pense" (Shame on him who thinks evil of it), and "Fidei coticula crux" (The coticula cross), the motto of the Earls of Jersey. It would therefore seem that the figure depicted in the last vignette is George Villiers, the 1st Duke of Buckingham. The panels are signed DUPRE. The craftsmanship is excellent. One of the panels is cracked.
