    Standing Table by Jean-François Buisson

A very original metal standing table made from reclaimed materials by designer Jean-François Buisson. This standing table was created for a houseboat.

The seats are upholstered in two different colors of vinyl. There are three seats. The vinyl is damaged.

    - After working as a musician, Jean-François Buisson now devotes himself exclusively to sculpting monumental pieces and creating metal furniture and decor. His work, a blend of strength and delicacy, reveals a dark yet generous world from which life springs forth.

    Career Path

    • 1990s
Alongside his work with the band SPINA, the artist was commissioned to create unique sets and stage designs for various venues (Restaurant H36, Mexicana showroom in Bordeaux), cultural spaces (Le Batofar in Paris, La Cartonnerie in Reims), performances (Togué – Carlotta Ikeda), and for film (Highlander series).

    • 1999
He restored and gave a second life to a three-hundred-year-old oak tree that had fallen during the storm of the century and devoted himself exclusively to sculpture. Trees became a recurring motif in his work.

    • 2002
At the request of the Dominican friars of Saint-Paul in Bordeaux, he created a monumental chandelier suspended beneath the church's dome.

    • 2003
Jean-François Buisson left his studio at the Bordeaux Submarine Base and temporarily moved into the former naval provisions warehouses (Bordeaux), a UNESCO World Heritage site, but abandoned.

He exhibited in Saint-Tropez, Cap Ferret, and at the Carrousel du Louvre; he also participated in art fairs in London and Geneva, which opened doors to an international audience and introduced him to collectors.

    • 2008
The artist signed a long-term lease with the Bordeaux City Council, in exchange for which he committed to the complete restoration of these two 18th-century pavilions.

He created "Les Vivres de l'Art" (The Provisions of Art). This "Domain of Possibilities" is organized around a large artists' studio, an art gallery, a public square designated as "Open B'Art," and an artist residency.

This is an artistic hub focused on contemporary creation and a transdisciplinary events center rooted in the local community, offering exhibitions, performances, concerts, theater, dance, and mixed media.

    • From 2009 to 2020
Jean-François Buisson dedicated himself to the restoration of these listed buildings and the development of the project, exemplified by an annual festival: Vivres de l’art (Living with Art) with 0, 1 peu, 2 bouts, 3 fois rien, 4 fois plus, 5 sens, 6 pieds sous terre (a concept that can be adapted for eternity).

    • From 2010 onwards
The artist was commissioned by the "Agora" architecture and design biennial to organize festive events to accompany the city's transformations. The "Ballet of Cranes" predates the creation of the Bassins à Flot district. "Brazz'art Ville" is a large industrial wasteland in Brazza that is currently undergoing development. "State of Emergency, Festival of Love" is another example. A laser and mapping show illuminates the Bassins à Flot district.

At the same time, he became a long-standing and regular collaborator of Hellfest, contributing the iconic tree and increasingly larger sculptures (five in total), reaching up to 18 meters for the latest clock tower.

    • Today
He is working on creating a support structure for a remarkable umbrella pine in the historic heart of Clisson, the birthplace of Hellfest, which sponsors the project.

A lifelong advocate for environmental preservation, Jean-François Buisson organized the "Ohm Home Homme" project in 2015 during COP21, which was then held in Paris. He proposed a "low-impact" event where small individual actions could contribute to a collective effort.

The successive lockdowns allowed him to "cultivate his garden," both literally and figuratively.

For the summer of 2020, he presented "Les Vivres de l’Art au 7e ciel" (Art's Provisions in 7th Heaven), an eclectic open-air program, and "8th Wonder of the New World," a program to help people better envision the future.

    • Looking ahead
Jean-François Buisson hopes to develop impactful projects aimed at preserving the industrial and natural heritage of the Bordeaux Maritime district (the heart of Les Vivres de l’Art).
