Very elegant washbasin composed of a carved and patinated wooden base simulating monopod griffins from the Consulate period, and a spectacular ewer accompanied by its basin from the beginning of the 19th century with superb chiseled details.
The outline of the basin is decorated with a frieze of water leaves, lined with a large frieze of vine leaves, bunches of grapes and fleurons. The ewer, embellished with a superb swan, frequently used for toilet "furniture", emphasizes the theme of water. A head of Bacchus, at the beginning of the handle, completes the theme of the vine.
This set, magnificently executed by Adolphe Boulenger, is directly inspired by the ewer with a swan and basin delivered by Martin Guillaume Bienais for the Tuileries Palace in 1802, now kept in the Louvre.
