Germany, 18th century: superb wheel-engraved leg glass, 17.3cm high, diameter at lip 9.2cm;

Truncated-cone goblet resting on a double ring, baluster leg enclosing an air bubble and also resting on a circular ring, circular foot, all blown and heat-glued;

The finely engraved decoration on the gob presents, in a rural setting - trees, tall grasses, shrubs, garlands of plants - a man and a woman embracing, two men talking, one of whom seems to be busy picking flowers, and several birds that seem to be the subject of a nursery rhyme whose text, in Old German, occupies almost the entire height of the glass:

"Es lebte ein gänzlein wohlgemacht
Das wan es Früh erwächet
Sich willig und gerne stopfen läs
Und an dem Spieße lachelt "

Here is a rough translation:

"There lived a well-made little goose
Who when she woke early
Let himself be stuffed
And smiled on the spit".

The glass is in perfect condition.
