Dorda was one of the best pastel portrait painters of his time. After a brief stay in Havana in 1927, he settled in New York where he acquired a great reputation as a portrait painter; among his models, opera singers such as Lucrezia Bori, and Hollywood stars such as Greta Garbo, Marlène Dietrich or Katherine Hepburn.
In 1930 Dorda exhibited at Gallery Chambrun, Madison Avenue, New York.
An important collection of his works is kept in the Museum of Leon in Spain (Collection Maria Conception Gago Montilla) and other works are in American private collections.
