Baluster vase and lid in Delftware, decorated in shades of blue with stylized flowers and birds. Signed Jansz Van der Laan.
    Late 17th century
Shows signs of use; chips in the glaze. On the lid, two chips and the handle have been restored; further restoration is planned.
    H. 39.5 cm

Jansz Van der Laan was admitted on January 29, 1675, as a Master Plateelbacker, to the Guild of Saint Luke, and entered into a six-year contract with Barbara Rottewel, wife of notary Simon Mesch and owner of the “Trois Cloches” pottery workshop. He appears to have remained attached to this workshop throughout his career. . Due to the high position held by his employer’s husband, he was authorized to mark most of the pieces produced at the “Three Bells” factory during his tenure with his monogram. It is primarily the everyday items that bear his signature. These items are sometimes decorated in shades of blue and sometimes in polychrome. His mark is, moreover, very well known.
