Very rare pair of chiseled and patinated gilt bronze candlesticks from the very beginning of the Empire period.
The baluster shaft decorated with three rams' heads, the circular base with a frieze of water leaves and gadroons.

Very nice work by Claude Galle, who delivered two pairs of identical torches to the Palace of Fontainebleau in 1805. Referenced July 15, 1805 is described:
"two pairs of candlesticks with bronzed balusters and chiselled gilded rams' heads" (National Archives 02 665 d1, page 82).
In 1807, a pair of identical candlesticks was in the bedroom of the Queen of Naples and remained in place throughout the first Empire.
This large pair of candlesticks by Claude Galle is illustrated, described and referenced in the work by Jean Pierre Samoyault "catalogue of bronze furnishings that entered Fontainebleau during the first Empire", on page 187.
Also illustrated in: Dumonthier, Bronzes of lighting and furnishing..., plate n°36.

Original gilding and green patina (only color referenced for this model) faded.

    Drilled for electrification.
