Hans-Agne Agnes (1919-2009)
Born on the island of Gotland, Sweden, Hans-Agne Jakobson is one of the most important Swedish designers of the 20th century.
He studied architecture in Gothenburg and apprenticed as a carpenter. He first worked as an industrial designer at General Motors, then as an assistant to Carl Malmsten.
In 1950, he designed his first pendant lights: a pine slat suspension to soften direct light on a shop window, this model was a great success. Jakobsson began producing this model and, in 1951, founded his own company: Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB.
In over 50 years of business, he has created more than 2000 luminous models using wood, copper, brass, fringed fabrics, brass and glass.
His creations are timeless pieces much sought-after by collectors the world over.
