Marius Musarra is a Sicilian-born ceramist based in Vallauris. His utilitarian and decorative ceramics include a series of pieces in mottled black and white fat lava with a bright red interior, a style that has come back into fashion among enthusiasts of the '50s.
In 1950, Marius and Marie Musarra set up their own workshop together, named Mabyjo's, after the first names of their three children. Glazes from L'Hospied adorn the ceramics. The name Mabyjo's is a contraction of the diminutives of their three children's first names: Marinette dite "Manou", Gabriel dit "Gaby", and "Josette".
Marius Musarra has won several awards at the Vallauris Biennial, as well as in Faenza. His studio also trained young ceramists, such as Max Siffredi, who worked there from 1961 to 1973.
