- Pair of gilt bronze candelabras featuring an allegorical figure of Victory or Fame in patinated bronze, 19th-century work from the Empire or Restoration period.
- These candelabras consist of a gilt bronze structure; a polished square base, a cylindrical base with a matte finish (guilloché and bush-hammered) topped with a chiseled surface of leaves arranged in scales. Standing on the latter, atop a globe, is a winged female allegorical figure in patinated bronze draped in the antique style, a figure of universal Fame. This sculpture holds at arm's length, like a caryatid, a bouquet of three light branches with a torch in the center. These branches are finely chiseled; an acanthus leaf follows their curve, in the hollow of which develops a volute wrapping around a delicate flower. The saucers feature a chiseled frieze of diagonal pearls, and the sockets feature a decoration similar to that of the guilloche base.
- These candelabras are distinguished by the finesse of their chiseling and the exploration of material effects with a variation in finishing techniques (polishing, guilloché, bush-hammering); the polished surface of the globe adds brilliance and stands out more than the matte surface of the base. Combined with the juxtaposition of the patinated bronze of the Renommée, these candelabras offer pleasing contrasts of color and light.
- Other similar candelabras are held at the Mobilier National (see GML-10975-001)
