André L'Helguen (1935-2017)
André L'Helguen (1935-2017) was a distinguished French ceramicist, best known for his work at the Keraluc pottery workshop in Quimper, Brittany. Born in Landudec, he studied under renowned professors at the École des Beaux-Arts in Quimper before joining Keraluc, where he spent his entire career refining his craft.
Founded in 1946 by Victor Lucas, Keraluc ceramics became a leading name in the evolution of Quimper earthenware. Moving away from traditional folk motifs, the workshop embraced modern artistic designs and attracted many talented artists, including L'Helguen, Pierre Toulhoat, and Jos Le Corre, each of whom brought their unique vision to the production.
L'Helguen developed a distinctive style, characterized by intricate decorative patterns and elegant forms. His creations include ceramic pitchers, lamps, and other functional pieces. They are celebrated for their artistic value and are highly sought after by collectors of mid-century ceramics.
