COIGNET A CHAMBERY FLINTLOCK RIFLE
France, 18th century
Steel, wood, horn, silver, bone.
L.T.: 143 - Barrel length: 103.5cm - Muzzle diameter: 16.5mm
The first third of the barrel is square, then round; the joint is decorated with an engraved, foliated and gilded ring. The upper side is marked LAZARINO COMINAZZO. Rice grain front sight. Breechblock with frog.
Flat-body lock, signed COIGNET à CHAMBERY; gooseneck hammer; bassinet with fireguard; battery spring roller. Steel counterplate.
Steel buttplate.
Short barrel, veined walnut frame with single leaf checkering.
Iron grenadières, one with leaf. Wooden ramrod with horn tip.
Fairly good condition. Surface corrosion of the barrel with 30% original bluing; the Lazarino Cominazzo marking is certainly a 19th-century fantasy.
