SWORD OF THE ROYAL BODYGUARDS FROM THE COMPAGNIE DE BEAUVEAUX, VERSAILLES
France, former Monarchy, 18th century.
Silver and steel
Length : 101 ; Blade length : 86 cm
Silver-plated bronze mounting. Olive pommel with vertical stripes; riveted knob. Wooden spindle with silver filigree. Jointing bow, quillon, jointing bow and edge of guard plate decorated with sinuous lines, specific to the Guards of the Corps du Roy.
Straight, triangular blade with slightly concave sides, engraved: COMPAGNIE.DE.BEAUVEAUX - GARDES.DU.CORP.DU.ROY, these markings are flanked by fleurs-de-lis. The third side is engraved with a radiant sun, the arms of France, and a trophy of arms.
The blade is signed on the heel: GUILMIN FOURBISSEUR à VERSAILLES and the mark of MOUCHETTE à SOLINGEN.
Without scabbard.
Good overall condition; minor wear to silver plating.
