A fine sword that broadly resembles the Imperial Guard officers' swords. Can be accurately attributed to the June 15, 1857 model for the senior officers of the Grenadiers de la Garde Impériale regiments (2 regiments, later 3) and for the senior officers of the Voltigeurs de la Garde Impériale (4 regiments).
These regiments were involved in the Crimean War, the Italian Campaign, where they suffered heavy losses, including among their officers, and the Franco-Prussian War.
BLADE: This is a diamond-shaped blade, with two cutting edges that begin after a short ricasso.
The blade is marked at the ricasso on one side and "Coulaux et Cie Klingenthal" on the other, and on one side, a control mark with a B surmounted by a star.
Blade length 76.3 cm, width near the hilt 2 cm.
The blade has a gray patina, with very minor traces of oxidation.
MOUNTING: This is a richly chased gilt-bronze mounting, with a keyboard system bearing the imperial eagle, and a movable counter keyboard, which can be folded down along the blade.
    The counter-keyboard locking mechanism works.
The keyboard is decorated with a crowned Imperial Eagle on a thunderbolt, with 6 flags in the background. The quality of the chasing is fine.
APPLE: Inverted cone, depicting an eagle with outstretched wings, holding laurel branches in its talons.
FUSEE: Black horn with gold filigree. The two ferrules are in chased gilt bronze.
Good overall condition, without scabbard. Total length 91 cm.
