Small Japanese fireman's helmet (火消し頭巾 - hikeshi kabuto)
Period: late Edo - early Meiji (XIXᵉ century)
Usage: worn by neighborhood brigade firefighters (machi-bikeshi, 町火消) in Edo (Tokyo).

These helmets were :

Ceremonial or prestige, not used during actual fire extinguishing (where firefighters wore fireproof hoods made of soaked cotton).

Worn for New Year's parades or official inspections.

Designed to imitate samurai bravery, hence their deliberate resemblance to kabuto.
