OILS AND MATERIALS ON PANELS 55C57CM DATED 67.
- THIS YEAR HE PRESENTED THREE WORKS AT THE PARIS BIENNIAL. THIS WORK COULD CO-EXIST ADVANTAGEOUSLY WITH PRIMITIVE ART!!.........

Pierre Souchaud was born on July 16, 1938 in Bezons (95) - National Education (Science teacher) until 1976. He has lived and worked in Lyon since 1996.
He began painting in 1960, experimenting and exploring until 1966, when the first paintings appeared that he considered showable. He offered them to Guy Resse of the Galerie La Roue in Paris, who gave him his first exhibition a few months later, with a preface by Jacques Lassaigne, then president of the AICA (International Association of Art Critics).
At the same time, he was chosen by Raymond Cogniat to participate with three works in the Paris Biennale at the Museum of Modern Art on avenue du Président Wilson.
Numerous personal (Galerie La Roue-Paris) and collective exhibitions (including Paris Biennale in 1967, Réalités Nouvelles 1971-72).
Purchases from the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris and the Museum of Fine Arts of Bordeaux.
Figured in numerous private collections: Max Théret (Founder of FNAC,) Samuel Becket, Max Gallo, Marc Moyens New York. -
In 1981 he created the magazine Artension which was in Poitiers from 1981 to 1986, then in Rouen from 1987 to 1992, and finally in Lyon from 2001 to 2009. - Apart from his activity as a painter, he is an art critic, preface , author of numerous texts of analysis and reflection on contemporary art published in various newspapers and magazines.

An objective presence (exhibition preface - Galerie La Roue – February 1969) Pierre Souchaud has shown his works in several group exhibitions and, at the last Paris Biennale, he had three important paintings. The cohesion of his vision, through its various manifestations, was already striking. Here is now his first private exhibition which will allow us to judge all of his work.
Souchaud repudiates the illusion. Each of his paintings adds a concrete and objective presence to the decor around us. It is an assemblage of clothing and body surfaces, bringing out a strange relationship between human tissue and the pieces of canvas, metal or cardboard inserted in the painting. These fragments of painted surfaces, differentiated but closely fitted, hang like empty envelopes from an invisible thread. The painting thus conceived is like a screen between the spectator and the world, it lets nothing filter through, neither light nor space, but it blocks the horizon and condenses obsessions, humble and familiar presences. It is executed with a kind of stubborn repetition in a narrow range of matte and rough materials, opaque and neutral colors. The faces of objects and things, the parts of the body taken indifferently and depersonalized, form a bizarre, disturbing composition, to which we cannot remain insensitive.
Jacques Lassaigne
President of the International Association of Art Critics from 1966 to 1969
