Beautiful work by Strasbourg painter Jules Faehnlein, depicting a rare view of the historic center of Dinan, more precisely the rue de l'Apport or rue des Cordeliers.
We can identify this street by the advertising sign on the wall of the house on the right, "DAVY Chapelier".
Rue des Cordeliers or Rue de l'Apport suffered a serious accidental fire on February 3 and 4, 1907, destroying 5 porch houses. Nevertheless, the first two porch houses shown in the painting can still be seen today in Dinan.
Our work is a rare and beautiful testimony to the liveliness of Dinan's historic center in the early 20th century.

A student of Jean-Jacques Henner and Jean-Léon Gérôme, Jules Faehnlein worked in Paris and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français between 1895 and 1912.
He received an honorable mention in 1898. He specialized in portraits and interiors: Portrait of a Woman, Portrait of the Author, Portrait of Mr. H. Letocart, Studio Corner, Interior in Haute-Savoie.
At the 1908 Salon in Toulouse, the painter exhibited several views of Dinan.

Nb : An old small restoration, without incidence, is visible on the back of the canvas.

Dimensions: 46.5 x 38.5 cm unframed and 61 x 53 cm with its Louis XVI-style gilded wood frame.
