    DETAILS
Large original oil on (original) canvas, signed lower right, titled on verso.
The painter gives us here a sublime and very large colorful canvas representing the beach in Trouville in September (Trouville is bordering Deauville). Between the beachside houses, the walkers on the sand or those sitting on a bench preferring to let their thoughts wander by looking at the sea or the sailboats sailing in the distance, everything is reunited to make us dive into this so pleasant seaside atmosphere. The precision of the details, the mixture of the different shades of blue, between those of the sky, the sea and the roofs, contrasting with either the light colors of the sand and the walls of the houses, give to this painting an elegance and a truer atmosphere than natural.
A so special atmosphere that we always find in the works of Marcel LAQUAY. A beautiful painting.

    ABOUT THE ARTIST
At the end of the war, Marcel Laquay participated in his first exhibitions and received in 1945 the diploma of merit at the Salon of Applied Arts in Arras, where he attended the School of Fine Arts.
An impressionist at heart, Marcel LAQUAY has always ignored various trends and fashions in order to deepen more and more this communion with nature that he restored with such brilliance, fidelity and pleasure, and he has always favored the real contact with the pattern where prevail Norman sites most invigorating. Indeed, Marcel LAQUAY worked with as much ease the Country of Caux as Bocage or Avranchin, without neglecting Paris or Morocco, adapting to the light and the colors without losing an inch of his personality. His essential base of draftsman allowed him all audacities; No difficulties discouraged him, and he never felt so comfortable when he mastered the perspectives, instilled movement with the elements, and made a vital and warm touch vibrate, in perfect harmony with an omnipresent nature.
He exhibited in many French and foreign cities.
Distinctions: Order of ARTS and LETTERS, Gold Medal "out of competition" of the Salon of French Artists at the Grand Palais in Paris.

"More Norman than this native of Pas de Calais was hardly possible. Indeed, Marcel LAQUAY remained faithful to the Rollin gallery and the Rouennais salons while spreading his talent as a draftsman and painter according to renowned national and international picture rails without forgetting the most famous juries where he appeared. Impressionist at heart, Marcel LAQUAY has always ignored various trends and fashions in order to deepen again and again this communion with nature that he restored with so much brilliance, fidelity and pleasure, and he constantly favored real contact with the motif where the most invigorating Norman sites reign. Indeed, Marcel LAQUAY worked with as much ease in the Pays de Caux as in the Bocage or Avranchin, without neglecting Paris or Morocco, adapting to light and colors without losing an inch of his personality. His essential base as a draftsman allowed him all the audacity; no difficulties repelled him and he never felt so at ease when he mastered the perspectives, breathed movement into the elements and vibrated with a vital and warm touch, well in phase with an omnipresent nature.
He passed away on March 21, 2014."

    André RUELLAN, Art critic
