Charles Revel was a painter from Lyon who studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts with Claude Bonnefond. He exhibited genre scenes and portraits at the Salon between 1864 and 1880.
Our painting is a portrait of an elegant lady of the late 18th century. Particularly recognizable in the costume are the draped dress with lots of fabric, the low shoes with a small, advanced heel and the flowered headdress on the side.
