Oil on wood panel by Louis Hierle (1856-1906) depicting a portrait of a young boy in Sunday (or sailor?) dress. Signed upper left and dated 1898. The workmanship is very fine and the child's gaze deep. This Gard-born artist painted many portraits and genre scenes. He is referenced in the Bénézit. I had this work reframed (by a professional) in an American crate with museum glass, as the panel was beginning to crack in the middle, so it is protected and does not require restoration. Dimensions 57cm x 44cm weight 5kg. careful delivery by colissimo with insurance.
