Impressionist work, dated 1899.
Large oil on canvas by the famous Impressionist painter Auguste Joseph Bracquemond 1833-1914 known as Félix Bracquemond was a French painter, ceramist, engraver and decorator of objets d'art.
Representing a woman with a belle époque hat, dated and signed by the artist lower left.
His painting output is quite small.
He played an essential role in Impressionist art, encouraging Édouard Manet, Edgar Degas and Camille Pissaro.
On his advice, Jean-Baptiste Corot, Jean-François Millet, Édouard Manet, Edgar Degas and Camille Pissaro took up engraving. He helped Manet with his etchings of Olympia and L'Homme mort.
With Degas, Camille Pissarro and Mary Cassatt, he dreamed of founding a magazine devoted to etching.
From then on, he was showered with honors: in 1882, he was named Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, then Officer of the same order in 1889; he was awarded the Medal of Honor at the 1884 Salon. He was named honorary president of the Société des peintres-graveurs français in 1890 and of the Société des peintres-lithographes in 1895, along with his friend Auguste Rodin.
Numerous collections in museums, some biographies and bibliographies available on this great painter.
Two minor restorations to the spine in no way detract from the quality and beauty of this work.
