    Portrait of an aristocrat
    An elegant half-length portrait of a woman, dressed in a light satin gown adorned with a blue ribbon.
    The sitter is presented with great restraint, in the style of French aristocratic portraiture from the late Ancien Régime.
    Based on her physiognomic features, the portrait has been associated with Madame de Montesson (1738–1806), morganatic wife of Louis-Philippe d'Orléans and a prominent figure in French social and cultural life during the second half of the 18th century.
    The work is captivating for the softness of its modeling, the delicate rendering of the fabrics, and the sitter's serene presence.
    Support: oil on canvas.
    Canvas dimensions: 83 × 66 cm.
    On the reverse, an old label from the General Fund for Reparations.
