Oil on canvas, still life with vegetables by Gustave HOFFMANN Born January 12, 1883 in Paris, died in Metz in 1977, he was a genre painter. Originally from Lorraine through his mother, he lived in Metz and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1902, where he was a pupil of Léon Bonnat and Luc-Olivier Merson, at the Académie JuliandeJules Lefebvre (for engraving) and T. Robert-Fleury, at the Beaux-Arts in Nancy, he was a pupil of Jules Larcher.Gaston Hoffmann exhibited regularly at the Salon des artistes françaisfrom 1905, as well as at the Salon des humoristes.
In 1918, G. Hoffmann collaborated with Charles Schneider, a friend he had met at the Beaux-Arts school, whose glassworks in Épinay-sur-Seine took off with the École de Nancy and enjoyed great success in 1925.In 1922-1923, G. Hoffmann worked for theManufacture de Sèvre.That same year, he designed the poster for the filmVidocq.
In 1925:the artist painted murals for theKerhulu restaurant in Quebec City:LaFaim et la Soif.these works are now housed at theMusée national des Beaux-Arts du Québec, thanks to a gift fromJeanPichéen 1983.
He taught drawing and decorative composition at the École des Beaux-arts de Québec from 1924 to 1926, and in 1946 decorated the Council Chamber of the Hôtel de Ville de Noyre, depicting the great hours in the town's history.
