Large porcelain biscuit figure depicting a Guardian Angel leading a young child. The Holy Guardian Angel wears a diadem with a star and has large folded wings. Late 19th century.

A beautiful traditionalist religious object; angels are the protectors of young children in their bedrooms. The following prayer is recited in the evening before good children go to bed:

"Watch over me when I wake,
Good Angel, as God has said.
When I sleep,
Bend over my little bed.
Have pity on my weaknesses,
Walk always by my side,
Speak to me along the way.
And while I listen to you,
Lest I fall on the way,
Good Angel, give me your hand."

Very good condition, small chips on the back of the base, otherwise intact.
