These two plates were made by Henri Chaumeil, 1877-1944, a ceramist who made various copies imitating the Hannong production as well as that of the Manufacture des Islettes. He also produced contemporary ceramics, studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs and exhibited his work at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants, the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs. The two plates we offer bear his mark "CH" on the reverse, one depicting a Chinese man fishing, the other a Chinese man holding a bird on a twig. Both are contoured in the spirit of 18th-century plates and are hand-painted in polychrome.
